TikTok will be (maybe) banned on January 19, 2025. Yet, it continues with more ecommerce pushes. Social Media Today reported its latest one: in-stream shopping.

💡 What’s TikTok doing?

  • It launched a new in-stream shopping event this OctoberFall Deals For You. Sounds familiar? That’s because it’s TikTok Shop’s version of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, even coinciding with the latter’s dates.
    • TikTok is riding on the popularity and traffic of the bigger competition—and it works! The platform says millions of items from half a million merchants have been sold through its app in the past year! 
  • It continues to host live shopping events. This is mainly because of the massive success of live selling in China. Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, made over $374 billion in product sales in 2023.

💲 The million-dollar question

TikTok is aiming for the same scale of success as Douyin in the global scene. But while in-stream shopping has been a hit in China, the same can’t be said in other regions.
