Amazon's Alexa for Shopping just recommended thousands of products that don't rank, aren't sponsored, and don't even show up on the search results page—and it's happening on 4 out of every 10 queries.
Meanwhile, the shoppers who converted best during Amazon's own biggest sale of the year got there by asking ChatGPT or Gemini first, not by searching Amazon at all.
Two stories, one theme: the rules for getting found on Amazon are quietly being rewritten by AI, and most sellers haven't noticed yet. Let's get into it.
- Amazon's AI recommends products your rank can't buy
- Amazon just moved 3D models to the front row
- Amazon is blocking AI crawlers while paying to advertise inside them

AMAZON NEWS
A new study tracked 1,963 non-branded search queries and the 12,810 recommendations Amazon's Alexa for Shopping served up between May and June. The results should worry anyone optimizing purely for search rank: 63.9% of the AI's picks fell outside the organic top 10, and 40.9% never appeared on the visible search results page at all.
📈 Here's the number that matters most
Only 14.3% of the products Alexa picked were even running a sponsored listing on that search term. Rank and ad spend still win the traditional search page—but they don't buy you a seat at the AI table.
Alexa for Shopping is becoming a third shelf next to organic and paid results, and early evidence suggests it rewards rich, complete catalog data and clear intent-matching over search dominance or ad spend.
✨ The move
Audit your listings for completeness, not just keywords—full bullet points, complete A+ content, accurate variations, and clear category/use-case language. This is the data Amazon's AI is reading to decide who gets recommended, and it has nothing to do with your ACOS.

Amazon just moved 3D models to the front row. Is your listing ready?
Amazon just changed where your product lives.
Remember the "View in 3D" button on mobile? That's gone now.
3D models on mobile are now embedded directly in the main image carousel. Before, it was tucked away and treated as optional.
But not now.
It's front and centre. The first thing a customer sees when they land on your listing, right next to your hero image.
Amazon doesn't move things into the carousel without data behind it. They've seen what 3D does to dwell time, engagement, and conversion, and they've made it a core part of the listing experience.
It's just like when A+ Content first rolled out. Same way for videos in listings or Brand Stores.
The brands that moved first built leads that took competitors years to close. Right now, less than 1% of Amazon brands have a 3D model on their listing. But that window won't stay open long.
Future-proof your brand
3D Images builds Amazon-compliant 3D models specifically for sellers, with a QA validation process so your model never gets rejected, and turnaround times that get you live fast.
No big budget needed. No creative agency.
This month, get 20% off your first 3D model.

Amazon Is Blocking AI Shopping Bots While Paying to Advertise Inside Them

US shoppers spent a record $26.4 billion across retail sites during this year's four-day Prime Day window.
Buried in that headline is a stat sellers should sit with: shoppers who arrived from an AI assistant like ChatGPT or Gemini were roughly 40% more likely to complete a purchase than those coming from search, email, or social, according to Adobe's measurement.
That's a reversal.
In earlier cycles, AI-referred shoppers were the least likely to buy—window shoppers who wandered in because a chatbot told them to look at something. Now the deliberation seems to be happening inside the assistant, before the shopper ever lands on a product page.
👀 Amazon’s sitting this one out… on purpose
Amazon blocks OpenAI's crawlers from reading its own listings and is suing Perplexity over shopping access, while simultaneously buying ad space inside ChatGPT to pull shoppers back to Amazon.com. The result: Amazon's share of AI-referred shopping traffic is the lowest of any major retailer, at roughly 0.4%, per J.P. Morgan — while Walmart and Target have opened their catalogs to outside AI assistants and are seeing early gains (Walmart says its own shopping agent, Sparky, drives 35% bigger baskets).
Amazon is building its own answer — an unreported project called Moonraker, meant to handle multi-step shopping requests — but internal documents reportedly show it's the most expensive line item in the whole Alexa+ overhaul, with delay or scale-back on the table.
What this means for sellers
Amazon still owns the bulk of purchase volume and will for years.
But if your product data only lives in Seller Central, you're invisible to the growing slice of shoppers doing their research in ChatGPT or Gemini before they ever open Amazon.
Keep your listings complete and structured everywhere you sell—not just optimized for Amazon's own search bar—because that's increasingly where the buying decision actually gets made.e.
Audit and update before July 27. This will take some testing over time to dial in.
Bonus seller news: Amazon confirmed Q4 fees are NOT increasing this year — Best Deals, Lightning Deals, and Prime Exclusives fees stay flat. Deal deadlines are moving up too: Prime Big Deal Days runs July 8–September 8, Black Friday/Cyber Monday runs July 8–October 20. FBA inventory deadlines for Prime Big Deal Days start September 2 (AWD) through September 16 (standard FBA splits) — get inventory in 4 weeks ahead, not 2.t. The sellers who figure out how to use one without being caught doing the other will be the ones winning the next two years.
