What to do when Amazon removes your listing by mistake

Amazon raked in a whopping $158.9 billion in sales this past quarter, and it’s mainly because of a unique mix of gimmicks the retailer cooked up earlier this year. There’s the biggest Prime Day yet, the expanded selection of brands, Rufus, Amelia, and many more.

Feel free to read Amazon’s Q3 report here. But if you want spicier pieces, read our week starters first.

  • Amazon’s wrongful listing removal ❌
  • Outpace your Amazon competition 💨
  • Cheaper customer spending, higher seller sales ⚖️

BLACK MARKET

For many sellers, Amazon removing their listings is a been-there-done-that experience. Amazon will most likely reason that this is due to updates to its product policies to comply with safety and regulation laws. Naturally, product listings are prone to screening and removal every update.

But although the changes are announced, some mishaps can still occur. Unfortunately, they did, and it affected one seller this time. 🐞

What happened?

  • OP sells beard oils containing carrier oils and essential oils.
  • However, Amazon removed their products, claiming it has the chemical Minoxidol. But it doesn’t.
  • The seller was quick to provide SDSs for all the ingredients as requested.
  • Still, Amazon insists that there is Minoxidol.

🤖 Think like a bot

Thankfully, listing experts chimed in with the best listing tip ever: “Think like a bot!”

  • The bot doesn’t just screen your list of ingredients.
  • However, it checks your product titles, description and bullet points, keywords, photos, and backend keywords.
  • If OP’s listing mentions keywords like hair growth, regrowth, or hair loss, it could get flagged because those keywords are associated with other listings that contain Minoxidol.
  • This applies to ANY listing under the Supplements, Pesticides, or Medical categories.

Other sellers’ advice

  • Post your case in Amazon’s seller forums and tag the Amazon Reps there with your ticket number.
  • Feed your listing title and description to ChatGPT and ask it if this product is likely to contain minoxidil. Edit your listing until it says 'no'.

Most importantly, report the issue immediately. And keep your eyes sharp when something doesn’t look right to combat any fraudulent attack or hijacking incidents. 📌

AMAZON NEWS

Ecommerce customers are choosing cheaper items—and it’s boosting your sales

Customers are increasingly opting for lower-priced items—and Amazon sees this as a positive trend for business!

In its recent Q3 report, Amazon’s net sales hit $158.9 billion, up from $143.1 billion in Q3 last year. Amazon believes that customers wanting cheaper products has helped boost sales.

🏆 Here’s why Amazon says cheaper buys are a win according to Business Insider:

  • Frequent purchases. Budget-friendly items are purchased more often, which helps boost overall sales.
  • Bigger baskets. Customers tend to add more items to their carts, especially everyday essentials like health and beauty products.
  • Increased loyalty. Buyers looking for value deals return more often, thereby strengthening Amazon’s customer base.

🏷️ With more shoppers searching for affordable essentials, there’s a real demand for budget-friendly products. So, offering low-priced items can lead to more frequent sales, bigger orders, and loyal customers.

Amazon’s emphasis on value might just be the perfect boost for sellers who meet those customer needs.
