Has Amazon’s Black Friday lost its spark?

Selling on Amazon is indeed a lucrative venture. But with the tightening competition, you might wanna consider setting up shop in other channels to really shine through. Here’s a list of the best ecommerce platforms this year, in case you want to explore this plan.

For some Amazon sellers, there’s one platform they’re sticking to as long as they can. Can you guess what it is?

  • Amazon’s Black Friday ⚫
  • Shine in 2025 💫
  • Amazon sellers on TikTok 📱

HOT TOPIC

Gone are the days when Black Friday meant waiting in long lines and fighting over discounts. This year, the excitement has shifted online.

However, the Black Friday hype feels a little deflated, with many consumers pointing fingers at Amazon. Why? Here’s what TheStreet spilled.

🍵 What's their deal?

Black Friday 2024 was on November 29, but Amazon jumped in early on the 21st, promising “big deals” on popular items. However, some eagle-eyed consumers noticed something fishy.

They claim that:

  • Prices on items in their carts mysteriously fluctuated before the sale began. 📈
  • Then, during the event, those prices “dropped” back to their original amount.
  • Amazon claims that its discounts are based on "validated reference prices" such as List Prices or Typical Prices.

This left many feeling like the discounts weren’t real.

And ICYDK, this isn’t the first time Amazon’s been called out for tricky pricing. Research from 2022 found that some sellers raised prices just before sales, creating the illusion of big savings. No wonder some shoppers are losing trust!

😁 Skepticism vs. optimism

Despite the criticism, Amazon remains optimistic about its holiday season performance. The company reported an 11% year-over-year sales increase in Q3 and is predicting a similar boost for the holiday season.

And with U.S. holiday spending projected to hit a record $902 per person, there’s still a lot of cheer (and cash) to go around.

💭 Will consumers tune back in?

While some shoppers may be feeling burned out by “fake” discounts, others are still ready to spend. Whether it’s through actual deep discounts or some savvy PR, we’ll see if Amazon can recapture the Black Friday magic. negotiate with Amazon’s lawyers to reinstate your account. It’s cheaper but should still be the last resort.

Amazon sellers are staying on TikTok until the end

Despite TikTok’s possible ban coming this January 2025, Amazon sellers are still jumping into the platform. According to CNBC, brands and retailers are drawn by the opportunity for less competitive, free exposure.

🪩 The TikTok appeal

  • Cost-effective. TikTok Shop has low seller fees, deep discounts, and the chance to tap into TikTok’s 170 million U.S. users.
  • Success stories
    • Sarah Potempa, CEO of Beachwaver, is a notable example, livestreaming product sales and fulfilling 1.2 million orders through TikTok Shop
    • Other brands like Nike, PacSun, Crocs, and Scrub Daddy have found massive success, with influencers and viral videos driving sales.
    • Some retailers, such as Yay's Snacks, have seen TikTok sales comprise up to 90% of their revenue and are sticking with the platform for now.
  • Almighty algorithm. TikTok’s algorithm makes going viral easier. One ‘crazy’ video can get millions and millions of views! 📱
  • Shoppertainment. TikTok offers a different experience. It isn’t trying to sell “everything to everybody,” Le Bourgeois told CNBC in October. “You see it, you like it, you buy it. It’s not a search.”

TikTok ‘til the end

Brands have shared they already have alternative channels in place if and when TikTok is banned. But they’re sticking with this goldmine for as long as possible. 🤝📩
