Amazon Just Rewrote 984 Million Product Titles With AI — Here's the 14-Day Catch

Amazon just rewrote 984 million product titles overnight using AI — no seller action required, whether you liked it or not. Meanwhile, TikTok Shop's beauty sales just grew 82% year-over-year, and a new study shows Amazon's own AI assistant is staying quiet about fake "Made in USA" labels.

Here's what changed this week, and what to do about it.

AMAZON NEWS

Since Amazon's new title guidelines took effect on July 27, its AI has automatically rewritten more than 984 million product titles across the catalog — whether sellers touched their listings or not.

📝 What changed

Titles are now capped at 75 characters (down from the old sprawling format), with a new 125-character "Item Highlights" field picking up the slack for materials, use cases, and other searchable details. Total character budget stays the same at 200 — it's just split into two fields now, and both are equally weighted in search, according to Amazon.

⏰ The 14-day catch

Regular sellers don't get a review window — Amazon's AI rewrite just goes live. Brand-registered owners get a bit more control: a 14-day window to review, edit, or approve the AI's version through the new "Review Listings Changes" tool before it locks in. Miss the window and Amazon's version becomes permanent.

On top of that, starting August 10, Item Highlights will start displaying underneath the Item Name on both desktop and mobile — so titles that look fine in the backend may render differently on the live listing within days.

What this means for sellers

If you're brand-registered, check Review Listings Changes now — don't wait for the 14-day clock to run out on an AI-generated title you haven't actually read.

If you're not brand-registered, audit your top sellers manually; Amazon's AI doesn't know your product the way you do, and a garbled Item Highlights field can quietly tank click-through on your best listings right as the new display rolls out on August 10.

Amazon just moved 3D models to the front row. Is your listing ready?

Amazon just changed where your product lives.

Remember the "View in 3D" button on mobile? That's gone now.

3D models on mobile are now embedded directly in the main image carousel. Before, it was tucked away and treated as optional.

But not now.

It's front and centre. The first thing a customer sees when they land on your listing, right next to your hero image.

Amazon doesn't move things into the carousel without data behind it. They've seen what 3D does to dwell time, engagement, and conversion, and they've made it a core part of the listing experience.

It's just like when A+ Content first rolled out. Same way for videos in listings or Brand Stores.

The brands that moved first built leads that took competitors years to close. Right now, less than 1% of Amazon brands have a 3D model on their listing. But that window won't stay open long.

Future-proof your brand

3D Images builds Amazon-compliant 3D models specifically for sellers, with a QA validation process so your model never gets rejected, and turnaround times that get you live fast.

No big budget needed. No creative agency.

This month, get 20% off your first 3D model.

TikTok Shop's Beauty Sales Just Grew 82% YoY — While Amazon Looks the Other Way on Fake Labels

Two data points landed this week that say a lot about where marketplace trust and growth are headed… and they're not pointing the same direction for Amazon.

📈 TikTok Shop is eating share in beauty

Beauty sales on TikTok Shop hit nearly $1 billion last quarter, up 82% year-over-year, part of a broader 123% growth run for the platform over the past year. Amazon still holds the top spot with just under 47% of U.S. online beauty and personal care sales, but its growth (14%) is now trailing the category's overall e-commerce rate for the first time — meaning Amazon is holding share, not expanding it, while TikTok Shop's slice keeps compounding.

🏷️ Meanwhile, trust is getting shakier

A separate study found that Amazon's and Walmart's AI shopping assistants can identify fake "Made in USA" labelson listings — and choose not to flag them. One bot reportedly described the decision as "a business calculation." It's a reminder that marketplace AI is optimized for revenue first, verification second, and that shoppers (and sellers competing against mislabeled listings) can't assume the platform is policing origin claims for them.

What this means for sellers

If you sell in beauty or personal care, TikTok Shop is no longer a discovery-only side channel — virality there is now directly feeding Amazon search rankings, so a multichannel presence is becoming less optional. And regardless of category, don't lean on Amazon's compliance tooling to catch competitors gaming origin claims on your listings' turf — if you see a mislabeled competitor, report it directly rather than assuming the algorithm will.
