Amazon Just Reclassified Your Products — Check Before October 31

Amazon just moved some of your ASINs into new fee categories. The listing page won't show it happened, but the deadline to dispute it is October 31.

Meta is also switching on in-app product browsing for your existing Facebook and Instagram ads by October 28unless you opt out first.

Adobe says online shoppers will spend $275.1 billion this holiday season, up 6.7%, and traffic sent by AI chatbots and browsers is set to jump 130%.

And a phishing ring just got taken down after stealing seller logins and taking customers for over €106 million in orders that never shipped.

Here's what changed, and what it means for your business.

  • 📦 Amazon reclassified your product's fee category — check before Oct 31
  • 📊 Adobe says shoppers will spend $275B online this holiday, and AI traffic is exploding
  • ⚠️ A phishing ring stole seller logins and took customers for €106M in fake orders
  • 🔗 Quick hits: Meta's Oct 28 ad default (opt out first), TikTok Shop's $100B run, and Temu's EU sales collapse

AMAZON NEWS

Your listing looks exactly the same. Your fees might not be. Amazon is quietly moving ASINs into new fee categories, and the window to catch a mistake is days away.

📦 What's changing

Starting October 31, 2026, Amazon is reassigning some ASINs to different fee categories after auditing listings against its category guidelines. Each ASIN carries exactly one fee category, and that category doesn't have to match the category customers see on the page, according to Nova Data.

The category you're moved into changes your referral fee, and may also touch closing fees, FBA fulfillment fees, and FBA returns processing fees, per beBOLD Digital's reporting. This hits FBM sellers too, not just FBA.

The math adds up fast. A referral fee moving from 10% to 15% on a $30 item adds $1.50 per unit — $1,200 across 800 November units. On a product earning $5 per unit, that same jump cuts margin by 30%, with no change to your price or your cost.

What this means for sellers

  1. Open your Fee Preview report today and look for any ASIN showing a scheduled category change. Sort by dollar impact, not unit count — one SKU doing 50 units a month matters less than one doing 5,000.
  2. Recalculate your per-unit margin under the new category, and check whether your Q4 ad spend and promotions still clear breakeven once the new fee lands.
  3. File a dispute before October 31 if a category looks wrong for your product. Include the ASIN, both fee categories, your product's attributes, and the relevant part of Amazon's fee category guidelines. After the 31st, you're paying the new rate while the dispute plays out.

Adobe Says Shoppers Will Spend $275 Billion Online This Holiday — And AI Is Already Rerouting Where They Click

Forget the "is e-commerce slowing down" narrative for a minute. Adobe just published numbers that say the opposite, and buried inside them is a bigger story about who's sending you the traffic.

🛍️ What's changing

Adobe forecasts $275.1 billion in US online spend between November 1 and December 31, 2026, up 6.7% year-over-year, based on more than a trillion visits to US retail sites, according to Adobe's own report.

Cyber Monday stays the single biggest day at $15.1 billion, Black Friday is forecast at $12.9 billion, and Cyber Week as a whole accounts for roughly 17% of total season spend, per Retail TouchPoints.

The number that should actually get your attention: Adobe expects traffic from AI chatbots and browsers to retail sites to jump 130% year-over-year, with Thanksgiving traffic from AI sources up 159%, according to RelevantAudience's breakdown of the report.

What this means for sellers

The season is growing, not shrinking, so a flat or down Q4 against this backdrop is a you problem, not a market problem. Check your own numbers against that bar before writing off the holidays.

A 130% jump in AI-referred traffic is still a small slice of total visits, but it's the fastest-growing number in the whole report. Make sure your titles, bullets, and Q&A answer the questions a shopper would actually type into a chatbot, not just a search bar.

With mobile forecast at 57% of season spend and peak discounts reaching 30% during Cyber Week, price and promotion planning for mobile shoppers matters more than desktop this year.

A Phishing Ring Locked Sellers Out of Their Own Accounts — and Took Customers for €106 Million

This one's a reminder that the biggest threat to your account isn't always a copycat listing. Sometimes it's someone who already has your password.

🎣 What happened

Nine people were arrested in a coordinated operation across Germany, Austria, and Romania after running a phishing scheme that stole login credentials from legitimate Amazon sellers, locked the real owners out, and posted ads for goods that didn't exist, according to Amazon's own account of the takedown.

Eurojust puts total customer orders placed through the hijacked accounts at more than €106 million. Of those, 556 completed purchases never arrived, causing more than €400,000 in direct customer losses.

Amazon says it began feeding intelligence on the group's tactics and infrastructure to German and Romanian law enforcement in April 2024, a partnership that ran more than a year before the arrests landed.

What this means for sellers

This started with phishing, not a platform exploit. Turn on two-factor authentication on your Seller Central login if you haven't, and treat any "verify your account" email or text as hostile until proven otherwise — go straight to Seller Central, never a link in the message.

If your account gets locked out unexpectedly or you spot listings you didn't create, report it to Amazon immediatelyand change your credentials from a device you trust. The faster a takeover gets flagged, the shorter the window a scammer has to rack up orders in your name.

It's also worth noting for brand owners: a hijacked account selling under your name does more reputation damage than a copycat listing ever could, since the order and listing history looks exactly like yours. Watch your account health dashboard for unfamiliar activity heading into Q4, when login attempts — legitimate and not — spike.

Quick Hits: Meta's Oct 28 Ad Default (Opt Out First), TikTok Shop's $100B Run, and Temu's EU Sales Collapse

A few other marketplace moves worth a scan before you close this email:

  • 📱 Meta is turning on "product browsing" inside your existing Facebook and Instagram ads by October 28, unless you opt out first. A tap can now open an in-app product browser before a shopper reaches your site. Meta reports a 3% average conversion lift from its own test, but hasn't said whether new ads default to on or which placements are affected, according to RelevantAudience.
  • 🚀 TikTok Shop is on pace to pass $100 billion in global GMV for 2026, after posting $50.3 billion in the first half alone, up 92% year-over-year, with the US at $11.8 billion. Momentum Works projects the full year near $123.5 billion — still well behind Amazon's roughly $200 billion per quarter, per Tubefilter.
  • 🇪🇺 Temu, Shein, and AliExpress just posted their worst quarter in Germany since the EU swapped its duty-free import exemption for a flat €3-per-item customs charge in July. Their combined German sales fell 35.5% year-over-year in Q3, per Marketmaze — though local sellers haven't clearly picked up the slack.

What this means for sellers

Three different signals, one theme: the rules of distribution are shifting fast, and not always in sellers' favor by default. Meta's change quietly reroutes your ad traffic unless you act. TikTok Shop keeps closing the gap on the big marketplaces. And a customs tweak in one region just reshaped an entire competitive landscape overnight.

The practical move heading into 11.11 and Black Friday: audit your Meta ad settings this week before the October 28 switch, and if you sell cross-border, watch whether other regions start copying the EU's customs approach.
