How to tailor your email campaigns to maximize holiday sales

How’s your holiday emails? Are they working their way to your buyer’s heart? Or are they being left unopened?

If it’s the latter, we’re here to help you solve that. After the starters to set up your holiday campaigns we gave last month, we’re here to add stuff that’ll help you create your best holiday strategy yet!

BIG IDEA

Do you know why the holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year? Because it’s the perfect time for sellers like you to connect with eager shoppers and ring in those sales! 🔔

But let’s face it—you’re not the only one flooding inboxes with festive offers. So, how do you stand out in a sea of holiday emails?

Litmus breaks down high-performing holiday email strategies that'll help you do just that.

📧 Holiday email marketing hacks

  • Set your goals. Define what success looks like for your campaign to avoid flying blind. Set specific, measurable goals that align with your business objectives.
  • Segment your audience. Not all subscribers are the same, so your emails shouldn’t be either. Audience segmentation will help you deliver the right message to the right inboxes. Some factors you can consider include:
    • Purchase history: Target recent buyers or high-value customers.
    • Engagement level: Separate active subscribers from those who haven’t clicked in a while.
    • Preferences: Cater to what your audience cares about, whether it’s product types or email frequency.
  • Craft engaging holiday content. The content is where the heart is! Your emails need to resonate with your audience, and that begins with understanding their interests. Tailor your messages to make customers feel connected during this festive season.
    • Tip: Alternate between hard-sell promos and softer, more personal emails to keep your audience engaged throughout the season.
  • Add some festive flair to your design, such as snowflakes or festive colors to make your emails pop. Just a sprinkle of holiday magic can go a long way! ❄️
  • Hit 'Send' at the best time. A well-timed email can turn a “meh” response into a shopping spree! You want your emails to arrive right when your subscribers are ready to shop, and that takes a bit of strategy and a sprinkle of intuition.
    • Best times:
      • 7 PM to 9 PM: This time slot is often prime for holiday email engagement as people settle down for the evening.
      • 10 AM to 11 AM: A reliable window for general engagement based on broader email trends.
    • Worst times:
      • 3 AM to 4 AM: Most subscribers are fast asleep and unlikely to check their inbox.
      • Before 9 AM on weekdays: People are busy getting ready for their day, making them less likely to engage with promotional emails.

Sounds like a plan?

November and December aren’t just busy months—they're prime time for holiday ca-ching! With over half of shoppers eager to pounce on the best deals, you better get ready to turn those inboxes into a revenue-generating machine! 💰

7 quick hacks to craft engaging holiday email campaigns

Sending holiday emails is easy, but getting receivers to open them can be quite challenging.

If you’re feeling like you’ve missed the email party, don’t worry! Mailmunch has put together some quick hacks to be your saving grace:

  • Grab their attention with your subject line. They’re the first thing your subscribers will see, so make ‘em count! Use attention-grabbing phrases that entice customers to click. Think along the lines of "Order now" and "Last-minute offer."
  • Spice things up with festive puns. Whether it’s reindeer jokes for Christmas or cheeky elf references, light-hearted humor goes a long way in engaging your audience. 😂
  • Emojis make everything better. They add some color and flair to your emails, making them more visually appealing. Plus, emojis in your subject line can boost open rates.
  • Start with a question. This helps create a connection and makes your email more relatable. With everyone stressing about holiday shopping, you could start with something like: “Did you miss out on our latest deals?”
  • Keep your images in check. We all know visuals are important, but size matters! Stick to images that are 600 pixels wide for optimal visibility on desktops.
    • Tip: Make sure your email design is eye-catching, but avoid those hefty image files that can slow things down. 🖼️
  • Clear CTAs are key. Instead of using vague phrases like “click here,” opt for specific ones like “Check out our holiday gift guide.” This makes it easy for your customers to know exactly what to do!
    • Tip: Don’t forget to link your CTA to the right landing page.
  • Deck the halls with themed templates. Don’t skimp on the design! The holiday season is the perfect excuse to get creative with your email templates. For Halloween, go spooky; for Christmas, make it merry!

🎁 All set to crush the holidays

The holidays are all about spreading joy and connection, so let your emails reflect that spirit. As you hit "Send" on those carefully crafted emails, imagine your customers opening them. You’re not just promoting products; you’re sharing in the magic of the season.

Cheers to brightening inboxes and boosting sales!
