How to defend your brand from common competitor attacks this holiday season

Remember when we told you about the action against trade loopholes exploited by non-U.S.-based retailers? Well, experts believe Temu and Shein will just waltz around it. This means Amazon and the other U.S. ecommerce pioneers will still battle both platforms for a long time.

You, too, have some serious battles to face as the peak season nears. Fortunately, we got some free advice on how you can win them.

  • You vs. competitor’s holiday attacks 🔨
  • Affiliate marketing = Higher conversion rate 📈
  • Amazon Accelerate 2024 ✨

POST OF THE WEEK

BLACK MARKET

With the holiday season just around the corner, competition on Amazon is fiercer than ever. As sales rise, so do sneaky tactics from competitors.

🔍 According to eComEngine, there are 7 common attacks to watch out for this peak season:

  • Backend keyword sabotage. Competitors may add harmful keywords to your listing's backend to trigger policy violations.
    • Tip: Regularly audit your listings and set up alerts for unauthorized changes.
  • Detail page manipulation. Notice sudden changes in your product descriptions or images? This could be a deliberate attempt to mess with your listing!
    • Tip: Use monitoring tools and keep original copies of your product details.
  • Fake negative reviews. Shady buyers may purchase your product solely to leave negative reviews and damage your reputation.
    • Tip: Track suspicious review patterns and report them to Amazon ASAP.
  • Fake review campaigns. An unexpected surge in glowing reviews might sound good. But it could be a setup to get you flagged for policy violations.
    • Tip: Report any suspicious review activity right away.
  • False IP claims. Competitors might file bogus intellectual property claims to take down your listing.
    • Tip: Keep product documentation ready to defend against false claims.
  • Unauthorized seller attacks. Bad actors can hijack your listings by claiming to sell the same product.
  • Fake reports to Amazon. Some sellers may file false reports to get your account suspended.

👀 The ultimate tip: Stay vigilant

Competition might be tough. But with the right defenses, you can shield your business and keep it thriving during the busiest time of the year.

BITES OF THE WEEK

AMAZON NEWS

Here’s what we learned from Amazon Accelerate

Amazon Accelerate is a conference attended by selling partners. Thousands had the chance to hear about the latest product announcements, participate in in-depth training sessions, and receive personalized support from Amazon subject matter experts.

Our team was fortunate enough to attend this year’s event. Here are some of the key highlights we gathered:

Amazon’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) efforts

  • Amazon discussed plans to leverage generative AI and integrate it into customer- and seller-facing platforms.
  • Rufus: This tool will highlight important features from product reviews to help shoppers make better decisions.
  • Project Amelia: Amazon’s all-in-one selling expert, providing sellers with personal guidance and support on marketing products, managing inventory, and tracking sales trends.
    • AI will deliver sharp marketing messages by modifying product titles to resonate with individual customers, based on their preferences, shopping patterns, and reordering behavior.
    • We have shared more information about this project below, so check that out! 👇
  • Image Generator: This tool will take your product image and place it in different backgrounds to create "Live Images” and will soon be available on Amazon listings.
  • Product Performance Spotlight: This feature can identify the causes behind traffic and sales fluctuations, offering recommended actions to get sales back on track.
  • Connect with a Specialist: This update ensures you connect with actual support (not just canned responses). A real person will guide you from start to finish, and you can even screen share while chatting!

Additionally, there are upcoming features such as customer feedback analysis, trend comparison against competitors, and many more!

Pricing strategies

Keep your prices competitive by:

  • Enabling email notifications to alert you when a product is not competitively priced.
  • Checking the “Pricing Health” tool to see which products are ineligible for the Featured Offer due to uncompetitive pricing.
  • Matching your price to the Featured Offer with just one click using the “Manage All Inventory” feature.
  • Enrolling in automated pricing.

That’s everything you missed from this year’s Amazon Accelerate event. Stay tuned for the complete rollout of these features and see how you can leverage them!

TECH MARKETING

Meet Amelia, Amazon’s latest AI toy

Besides being an ecommerce giant, Amazon is a part of Big Tech giants (along with Alphabet, Apple, Meta, and Microsoft). This makes the company an authority figure when it comes to the latest innovations.

This month, Amazon launched the beta version of Project Amelia, a generative AI-based selling assistant. And it looks awesome!

What’s all the fuss about?

Amazon calls Amelia an “all-in-one selling expert” due to its capability to deliver personalized answers to seller queries. It was built using Amazon Bedrock and will learn and evolve with each interaction.

Currently, it can:

  • Answer questions accurately—any question (at least according to Amazon). The answers are from reliable sources, including the extensive Seller Central and beyond.
  • Provide performance updates. Ask Amelia how your business is doing, and it’ll give you a real-time rundown of your seller account metrics (recent sales, website traffic, etc.). It can also offer an overview of your ASIN’s performance. 🔍
  • Diagnose and resolve. Inventory status not updating? Just message Amelia with your concern and it will analyze the problem to give you straightforward resolutions.
    • Trivia: In the future, Amazon plans to let Amelia solve the problem on the seller’s behalf.

So, when do you get to meet Amelia?

The tool is already accessible to several U.S. sellers. But Amazon promises it’ll be available to more sellers and countries later this year.

Are you excited to try out this new assistant? 🫵
