Amazon Now Requires Sellers to Label AI-Generated People in Product Images

Two marketplaces just moved to lock in the sellers already on their platforms—and Amazon quietly tightened a rule that touches your listing photos.

Meta launched a dedicated app for Facebook Marketplace sellers, and TikTok Shop is testing a Prime-style membership built for repeat buyers. Meanwhile, Amazon now requires sellers to label AI-generated people in product images, following a new New York law.

Here's what changed this week, and what to do about it.

AMAZON NEWS

Following New York's new synthetic-performer disclosure law, Amazon has started requiring sellers to flag any AI-generated humans that appear in product photos, listing graphics, A+ content, and videos.

👀 What's covered and what isn't

Fictional characters and lightly edited photos of real people are exempt. Fully synthetic, photorealistic humans—generated or heavily altered by AI—are not, and now need a disclosure label before they go live.

The change follows New York's law requiring disclosure of AI-generated "performers" in commercial content, and Amazon appears to be applying it broadly across the catalog rather than just to New York-facing listings.

✨ The move

Audit any AI-generated imagery in your current listings and upcoming creative pipeline—hero shots, lifestyle photos, A+ modules, and video. If a "person" in the image isn't a real photographed model, it likely needs a label now. Getting flagged for missing disclosure is one more way to trip account health and risk suspension.

Amazon just moved 3D models to the front row. Is your listing ready?

Amazon just changed where your product lives.

Remember the "View in 3D" button on mobile? That's gone now.

3D models on mobile are now embedded directly in the main image carousel. Before, it was tucked away and treated as optional.

But not now.

It's front and centre. The first thing a customer sees when they land on your listing, right next to your hero image.

Amazon doesn't move things into the carousel without data behind it. They've seen what 3D does to dwell time, engagement, and conversion, and they've made it a core part of the listing experience.

It's just like when A+ Content first rolled out. Same way for videos in listings or Brand Stores.

The brands that moved first built leads that took competitors years to close. Right now, less than 1% of Amazon brands have a 3D model on their listing. But that window won't stay open long.

Future-proof your brand

3D Images builds Amazon-compliant 3D models specifically for sellers, with a QA validation process so your model never gets rejected, and turnaround times that get you live fast.

No big budget needed. No creative agency.

This month, get 20% off your first 3D model.

Facebook and TikTok Are Racing to Own Your Repeat Customer

Meta and TikTok both shipped moves this week aimed at the same problem: getting a shopper's second order, not just their first.

👀 Meta gives Marketplace sellers their own app

Meta launched a standalone Seller app for Facebook Marketplace, pulling listings, buyer messages, and performance data into one place. It also adds AI listing creation from a photo and bulk uploads—workflow that used to require third-party tools.

💻 TikTok Shop tests a Prime-style membership

TikTok is piloting product subscriptions and a "Shop Plus" membership tier, a clear signal that ByteDance wants repeat, subscription-style revenue instead of one-off impulse buys driven by live and short-form video.

What this means for sellers

Amazon still owns the bulk of e-commerce purchase volume, but the loyalty and repeat-purchase infrastructure it's built over two decades is no longer unique. If you sell anywhere near Facebook Marketplace or TikTok Shop, these are worth a small test now, before the tooling and membership perks mature and the cost of entry goes up.
